Welcome to The Yuppie Way 

It's time to live the slow life. Our challenge includes monthly affirmations, motivational music from female artists, and journal prompts to increase mindfulness and encourage emotional balance.

Around this time of year you have heard the saying “New year, New me” but the goal of our monthly challenge is not to create a “new you”. 

The Yuppie Way’s goal with this challenge is to create a more “aware you” You do not need to reinvent yourself but become more in tune with yourself. 

Our monthly challenge is created upon prompting you to examine the internal “why’s” and “what’s” of the space in your mind. 

The tools we’ll be giving you are; Affirmations, positive music, and journal prompts.

  • What are affirmations, how do they work, and why should you use them? 

Affirmations are by definition the action or process of affirming something or being affirmed. An affirmation creates emotional support and or encouragement.

I know what you’re thinking, “Isn’t it silly to repeat a phrase to myself?” At first it will feel like that! But like a work out routine, a daily schedule, etc.. the more you condition yourself to repeating affirmations the more natural it becomes. Your subconscious is a sponge, it will soak up any thought that you feed yourself repeatedly. Our mind is constantly feeding us negative thoughts. “I am not good enough, I am not worthy, I am not valued unless I am doing x,y,z” What happens is then our subconscious absorbs that and we believe that thought to be true. We created a negative affirmation without even realizing it! Positive affirmations work in the same vein, the more you repeat a positive thought it begins to sink into your subconscious sponge. 

Why should you use them?  Affirmations help give you the power to change your negative thinking patterns and replace them with positive thinking patterns, affirmations assist you in accessing a new belief system! Think of affirmations as water to a garden, if you want your flowers to bloom they’re gonna need water regularly right? You are using affirmations to tend to your garden.  

What impact does positive music have on us?

Music impacts us in so many different ways! Think about it, when you’re sad you listen to sad songs to magnify that feeling. Imagine if instead you turned on a positive song, how would your mood be impacted? 

Music has been proven to boost memory, build task endurance, lighten your mood, reduce anxiety and depression, stave off fatigue, improve your response to pain, and help you work out more effectively.  

We have the ability to flip our mental space with just a positive song, that is why we have curated a song for each month to lift you up, turn up the volume and absorb the feeling attached to the song. 

Why should I be journaling? What is the benefit of that?

Journaling is a simple and effective way to take yourself out of your mind and onto paper. 

Journaling helps control your symptoms and improve your mood by: Helping you prioritize problems, fears, and concerns. Tracking any symptoms day-to-day so that you can recognize triggers and learn ways to better control them. Providing an opportunity for positive self-talk and identifying negative thoughts

When you journal your thoughts you are providing yourself the opportunity to view your thoughts in a pragmatic way. It allows you to see how your thoughts are leading your emotions and actions. 

If you can identify then you can rectify! When we journal, we can redirect how we are thinking into a more positive place which will lead to positive emotions and actions. 

Sometimes it’s hard to know where to start when you begin to incorporate journaling into your routine. We created journal prompts for each month to encourage your journaling journey.
