Know Your Numbers: Introducing the TYC Poshmark Profit Calculator

A sale notification is satisfying. Knowing what you actually keep is more useful.

Introducing The Yuppie Closet’s free Poshmark Profit Calculator, a practical tool for resellers who want to make decisions with numbers, not guesswork. Before you accept an offer, source another piece, or lower a listing price, take a moment to look beyond the sale total.

A better offer starts with a clearer picture

The price a buyer offers is not your profit. Your acquisition cost, selling fees, and any shipping cost you absorb change what remains. A piece can sell for more than you paid and still deliver less profit than you expected.

Our calculator brings those figures into one place. It displays a sale breakdown, estimated net profit, and profit margin so you can compare possible outcomes without repeating the arithmetic yourself.

How to use the calculator

  1. Enter your COG, or cost of goods. This is what you originally paid for the item. Use your actual cost, not its original retail value.
  2. Enter the offer price. Use the buyer’s proposed amount, or test a price you are considering for a listing or counteroffer.
  3. Select the shipping amount. The current tool offers deductions of $6.49 or $10.00. Check whether the selected amount reflects the cost you will actually bear on the sale.
  4. Review the fee assumption. The calculator currently applies a flat 20% seller fee to the offer price.
  5. Select “Calculate My Net.” Review the estimated profit, margin, and individual deductions. Change the offer price or acquisition cost to compare another scenario.

Use the result as a planning estimate, not a guaranteed payout. Check the applicable fee and shipping terms in your Poshmark account before accepting an offer. The tool’s fixed fee and shipping choices may not match every transaction. It does not separately account for packaging, cleaning, repairs, overhead, taxes, or your time.

What an offer looks like after costs

Consider an item purchased for $15 with a buyer offer of $50. Using the calculator’s 20% fee assumption and its $6.49 shipping selection, the breakdown is:

  • Offer price: $50.00
  • Estimated seller fee: $10.00
  • Selected shipping deduction: $6.49
  • Cost of goods: $15.00
  • Estimated net profit: $18.51

That is a 37.0% estimated margin before any additional expenses. Now test a $40 offer with the same costs: the estimated profit falls to $10.51. The difference is useful context when deciding whether to accept, counter, or wait.

Why this belongs in your resale routine

Source with intention. Before buying inventory, enter a realistic selling price and the proposed acquisition cost. A desirable label does not automatically make a worthwhile purchase. Leave room for negotiation and the work the piece may need.

Negotiate with context. An offer is easier to assess when you can see what remains after costs. Establish a working profit target before the notification arrives, then use the estimate to inform your response.

Separate revenue from profit. A busy closet and a profitable closet are not necessarily the same thing. Looking at both dollars retained and margin helps you understand whether your sales support the business you want to build.

Balance margin with inventory movement. Sometimes accepting a smaller profit makes sense to release cash or move an older listing. The calculator does not make that decision for you. It gives you a clearer starting point.

Bookmark it before your next offer

Bookmark the TYC Poshmark Profit Calculator and keep it close while sourcing, listing, and negotiating. Make checking your numbers a small, repeatable habit rather than something reserved for month-end.

Good resale decisions do not need to be dramatic. They need to be informed.
